Aug. 6 and 9, 2022, marks 77 years since the US bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing between 129,000 and 226,000 people, most of whom were civilians. This is a horror we must never forget – or repeat.
Please join us for the 2022 memorial observance on Monday, August 8, at 7:00 PM near the Japanese Bell South of the State Capitol. (Parking is available in the Supreme Court Building lot, 1111 E. Court.)
In music, poetry, and words of recommitment, we will recall and grieve the unfolding of the nuclear age, the horrendous cost to the people of Japan, and the continuing costs and threats to people all over the globe. We will renew, to our children and future generations, our commitment of “Never Again.”
You may wish to bring a lawn chair and flowers to lay at the bell.
Rain location: Wesley UMC, 800 E. 12th St., Des Moines
