July 25

Jennifer and Sidney Shide – Soloist and organist
Jennifer is the Director of Music and Worship Arts at St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Johnston. Her son Sidney will be a freshman next year at Urbandale High School. Sidney will be accompanying his mother on the piano and will be playing postlude on the organ.

August 1
Maggie Steffen – Soloist

Maggie is a member of the Grace UMC choir and does solo work at various churches in the Des Moines area.

August 8
Scott Silipino – Tenor

Originally from New York’s Hudson Valley, Scott earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music from Susquehanna University, where he focused on music education, vocal performance, and music technology.

He is a singing member of the Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus and the tenor hymn leader at Ankeny First United Methodist Church.

Recent roles include: Lem Billings in Lippa’s Unbreakable; tenor soloist in Saint-Saëns’s Christmas Oratorio & Bach’s Missa Brevis in G Major (BVW 236); Thug #2 in Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate.

Other groups Scott has sung with include Capella Festiva Chamber Choir, Delaware Valley Opera, The Hudson Valley Bach Festival Choir, and Susquehanna University Opera Studio.

August 15
Raul Canahui – Baritone

Raul works as an intern architect at a local firm. When he was young he developed his love for music by singing at church. Raul is a member of the choir at Plymouth Church and a member of the Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus. When he was younger, Raul sang with the National Children and Youth Choirs of Guatemala.

August 22
Will Samorey – Violin

Will began his studies in music in Des Moines, Iowa at 11 years old. He has studied with Des Moines local violinists including Donald Sieburns, and Jim Brauninger and received his undergraduate degree at the University of Western Ontario under the tutelage of Annette-Barbara Vogel where he graduated with a B.A. in Music with honors in Violin Performance.

Professionally, he has performed in all concentrations from chamber music, to pit orchestras, community and symphony orchestras in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and Iowa. He is currently a substitute violinist with the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra and Des Moines Symphony Orchestra and has full tenure as a section violinist with the Quad Cities Symphony.

As a music educator, Will has had over 40 students ranging from young children to adults. He teaches in Des Moines and the Quad Cities. As well as individual private lessons, Will has worked closely with local school districts to encourage and coach young chamber music groups. As an extension of his passion for education, Will has created Winspiration Studio which hopes to encourage and inspire young learners by removing barriers to their growth, including reduced lesson fees and loaning out quality instruments to inspired up-and-coming musicians. Will restored and loaned out his first instrument at the beginning of 2019.

Dr. Rebecca Gruber – Soloist

Rebecca teaches music theory and voice at Drake University.
